In the 1970s, the legend of right fielder Dave Parker and his beastly power knew no bounds. While a minor leaguer, there was the story of the “Cobra” knocking a homer so far out of the stadium the ball landed on a passing train and was later found in Columbus, Ohio.
In Pittsburgh, his myth only grew when he literally “knocked the cover off the ball,” smashing a ball deep into the outfield, causing the seams to split and making it near-impossible to field. And Parker’s off-the-field showmanship lived up to his on-the-field exploits. After losing two games in a row to the Phillies in 1976, Parker, ever the master of ceremonies, responded to the mini-slump by wearing a homemade shirt reading “IF YOU HEAR ANY NOISE IT’S JUST ME AND THE BOYS BOPPIN." Pay homage to one of the game’s greatest moment in theater.
